The fifth tallest peak in the lower 48 states, Mount Rainier dominates the regional scenery in western Washington. Easily visible from Seattle, the mountain tops out at over 14,400 feet above sea level, and it is permanently capped with snow and ice. The slopes of the mountain receive some of the heaviest snowfall on earth, which feed the many streams each summer as they cascade downward.
