St. Louis River
Near Duluth, Minnesota Jay Cooke State Park is a very popular state park where the magnificent St. Louis River flows through on its course towards Lake Superior. During periods of high water the rapids on the river can be extreme - in June 2012 the bridge was completely destroyed when a major rainstorm hit the area.
This photograph was taken in late October 2017 after a record-setting early season snowfall. Over 10 inches of snow fell at Duluth International Airport the previous day, giving the landscape the appearance of it being mid-winter rather than mid-autumn.
